Grandparent's Day 2010

This year for Grandparent's Day my kids decided they wanted to make their great-great grandmother, Bebe, a handmade pillow- so we got the drawing paper out and let the kids imagination go wild then on to me to finish ;)
I love how the kids like to admire their drawings after it is on a pillow- it seems to "come to life" or something. I was afraid they were not going to give the pillow to Bebe ;) but of course they did.
After church on Sunday we went to the nursing home, where a lot of our family was at, and visited with Bebe. We also got to see my grandmother, Memaw- so we did get to see 2 of the grandparents.
Bebe loves her pillow and now has in hanging in her window so everyone can see it when they walk by- I cannot wait for the kids to go back to the nursing home and see it displayed like that. I hope everyone had a great Grandparent's Day.
I am working on another cake due this week- all I can say it is a very creative piece that was requested -I am hoping it turns out- pics will follow.

Twins 21st Bday

Wow at how fast time goes by!! My little cousins celebrated their 21st birthday in August and my aunt asked me to make their cakes. All I have to say about my aunt is: 1 I have always called her "crazy Aunt Holly" *haha*, 2 she must have a lot of faith in me to make the cakes she requested (especially considering I have only made 3 other cakes ever!).
Jami's cake was a Tiffany's box- with Jami&Co. on it ;p I loved it. When I put the cake against the Tiffany&Co box I realized I really needed to work on the color next time.
Jessica's cake was a "candy theme" cake- she told me all the candy she wanted and sent pictures of her "cake" (the topsy turvy cake). I was happy with this cake as well, the only thing that I was really dissapointed in was my green fondant was too gooey to use on the top layer so I had to cover the entire cake purple.
Overall I was happy with the cakes, and I learned a lot of things to do next time and a lot if things not to do *haha* Thank you for letting me have fun with your cakes Jami and Jess!! I was thrilled to take part of your 21st!
I also included the pic of me and the twins, me and "crazy Aunt Holly", and a 5 generation picture that we were lucky enough to take at the party. I was not happy with my hair but with moments like this you overlook the small stuff- I am so lucky to have my great-grandmother (Bebe), grandmother(Memaw), mom(Gamma), and my kids all with me :)
The cakes are not perfect but they are by me :)

Derby Day 2010

Yesterday, August 28,2010 was our church Pinewood Derby Day. This was our first year to do this and it was a ton of fun. E's car was "bling'd out" with "diamonds" and T-man's car was his "batmobile", he wanted it shaped like a guitar but we didn't cut it out until the night before at 9:30PM so maybe next year he can get his guitar.
E won 1st plae in the "midget" class and she now thinks "diamonds" are fast and wants them on all of her cars from now on. T-man won the award "Most Likely to be seen coming out of a batcave" he was thrilled to recieve a blue ribbon!!!!
When E went into the final rounds to race against all age divisions and she did not win she was very upset- needless to say she is very competative and we need to work on her sportsmanship. I am glad she has a instinct to want to be the best but I also want her to be happy for everyone at the same time :)
I do not think this will be our last year at Derby Day, because when we left the kids were already talking about what they were going to design next year!
I am so glad we had so much fun as a family- and so happy to be part of a church that has so many great opportunities for our kids.

3PM-1AM My "Busy" Time

Oh wow!! Yesterday I was making patterns for the Christmas presents I plan on sewing when I thought about an old outfit I bought for my Princess (on clearance was $65!!). That is where my wheels started turning and I got the outfit down and traced in on the cardstock 1/2" bigger on each side and ta-da!!! I was SHOCKED, I actually made an outfit on my own that worked out.

Today I had my attempt at embroidery. I saw online (I cannot remember where so if you know please tell me so I can give them credit) where you can take your child's art and embroidery it. Since my Princess is always drawing and turn it into a pillow. My embroidery is not the best but I am thrilled, I now have a way to cherish have my daughter's artwork forever. What is more precious than a child's mind??

Oh my between my Pirate going on a children's field trip w/ the church, this, and my Wednesday night Mission Friend's class I am give out, but satisfied at the same time.

So tomorrow I hope to start on my "list" of Things To Do Christmas 2010.

First Time For Everything

This is my very first blog to every attempt to post so please be patient while I adjust (or duck out gracefully). I will say the reason I am here is because when I first ran across www.allthingsthrifty.com a few months when searching for thrifty but cute ideas on how to decorate a room I was addicted!! I fell in love with her ideas and how she explained how to do them in terms I could understand!! I have not (yet) attempted to reupholster a chair but want to with her help on the site. She has a ton of great and inspiring ideas!! This was my first blog to ever read and I do believe I told EVERYONE I knew about it- I was that inspired. Please check her site out
My second and my addiction now is MADE
I have been inspired to grab my sewing machine that I recieved 10yrs ago (and never used) and start sewing!!! I have bought fabric for the past 10yrs hoping one day I would use it so I didn't have to go out and purchase anything- just had to read her easy to understand directions!!
You guys I am telling you if you have never read a tutorial on a blog and tried it- you need to. If I can put all fear aside and try it- you can too!
The picture is of my princess in her The Warhol Dress from dana-made-it.com site!! She loves the dress and so do I!! Thank you Dana for giving me the confidence I needed to start sewing (it is not perfect but it is a start)
